I got out in my service uniform \u2014 not as armor, though I know that is how it looked to them, but because I had flown in overnight from Fort Benning after a training rotation and there had been no time to be anything but what I am, which is a soldier.<\/p>\n
Then the doors opened behind me, and my children climbed out one at a time, and I heard the whispering start before the last of them had both feet on the grass.<\/p>\n
